  1. Site location: the Embassy located at an important Canadian cultural and historical zone. Physically, the project location is facing one of the most dominant historical symbols in the urban context of Ottawa, which is the Canadian Museum of Nature.

Design Philosophy: the “Embassy Concept” represented in the design conception is strongly linked to a civilization dialog. The dialog is integral in its two parts, the interior dialog between the building and its users through the space experience from the view of Iraqi present and history, and on the other hand, the exterior dialog is phenomenal with the other through the external envelop and its symbols that integrated with the urban view represented by the museum and its cultural and historical consequence for Ottawa and its visitors.

  2. Design Concept: the design concept represents an interpretation of the design philosophy, where suitable design metaphors are selected to signify the idea of the cultural dialog between Iraq and Canada. The dialog has its deep representation in time and place between the past and the present, the East and the West, and it is dialectic between the tradition and modernity to create a contemporary architectural reflect the identity, which characterize a unique understanding of the Embassy of Iraq in Canada. The Ishtar Babylonian Gate is selected for its consistency with the facing museum building as a volume consistency (the buttresses and donjons in both the Museum and Ishtar Gates) and the detailed consistency (the use reliefs in both the Museum and Ishtar Gates). The negation and the assignment processes on Ishtar Gate as a reference result in reformation of brick buttresses to glass masses integrated with the Glass mass of the museum that dominating the urban view from one side and added the idea of transparency and continuity in the proposed cultural dialog.

In opposite of the simple exterior envelop, the open to the interior space and the richness of the details and architectural element is a guanine concept in the Iraqi Architecture that is based on its Islamic philosophy to show the self affluence and strongly tied to the interior visual experience.
